Traffic Fines in Vietnam - Motorbike Riding Violations

Below we have listed some of the penalties for violations while driving a motorcycles / mopeds / scooters in Vietnam. Penalties are subject to change without notice. Driving on the road with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams to 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams per liter of breath.

Driving on the road with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.4 milligrams per liter of breath.

Driving a vehicle at a speed exceeding the legal limit by more than 20 km/h.

Causing a traffic accident without stopping the vehicle immediately, failing to preserve the scene, not assisting the victims, not staying at the scene, or not reporting to the nearest police station or local authorities.

Cases where three people are allowed on a motorcycle:

The motorcycle rider or moped driver is only allowed to carry one person, except in the following cases where a maximum of two people can be carried:

  • Transporting a sick person for emergency treatment;

  • Escorting a person who has violated the law;

  • Children under 12 years old;

  • Elderly or disabled individuals.

- The mandatory vehicle lighting period starts from January 1, 2025. The front headlights must be turned on from 6:00 PM the previous day to 6:00 AM the following day, or when there is fog, smoke, dust, rain, or adverse weather conditions that limit visibility.
